About The Everest
100 Project:
The Everest 100
Project aims to take 100 members from Girlguiding SW England to
Everest Base Camp before the start of Girlguiding UK's Centenary
in 2010.
The Project
evolved from the achievements of our Region's Everest '07 Girls
who took the Girlguiding hot air balloon to new heights against
the backdrop of the world's highest mountain.
So many members
wished they had been involved - and now here's your chance!
We have
launched a series of treks to EBC. A project launch trek and
The World's Highest Coffee Morning will take place in September 2008 in conjunction with
Macmillan. Further base camp treks will be in March, April and
September 2009. There is also a slightly less demanding Panorama trek
in May 2009.
These 10-17 day
Himalayan treks will
be led by Girlguiding UK's Everest '07 Team Members, in co-ordination with
Didit, the Guiding-friendly folk who ran the Everest balloon attempt.
Each Trek will
have its own unique challenge or world-first record attempt and all team members will play
an active role in achieving it. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be a part
of Guiding history, to be an integral part of a world-first and
all besides the personal challenge of trekking to Mount Everest.
As the
expedition name suggests, places are limited to 100
members from the SW England Region. For Base Camp, you will need to be over 18
and under 60 on the date of departure. It is a strenuous trek into
remote, mountainous environments, so you will need to be
physically fit and with the right mental attitude to succeed and
get on with the team members.
Do you want to
be one of them? If so, read a bit more of this site, have a
serious chat about it with your friends and family and drop us a
line if you are 'up for the challenge'!
