Everest Base Camp Trek:

Follow the yellow dots on the map to the right!

We will be following the classic Everest Base Camp route from the incredible Hilary mountain airstrip at Lukla, through lush forest, alpine villages and desolate morraine, to the historic base camp at Gorek Shep, to the peak of Kala Pattar and back.

The trek is strenuous at times and is mentally and physically demanding; but hugely fulfilling. It is far from transport and normal infrastructure, taking in tiny settlements and mountain pass trading points along the route.

High-slung rope bridges cross deep glacial river valleys and the giant peaks of Everest, Pumori, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam are a constant backdrop to colourful Buddhist prayer flags and monasteries.

The terrain is mountainous and changes daily with incredible views, if you are not climbing through cloud at the time! We hope to Summit at Kala Pattar above 5,400 metres (18,000’) where sub zero temperatures and oxygen parched air make progress slow but rewarding. The vista from this legendary peak towards the adjoining 8,000m peaks will live with you forever.

The team will learn about the culture and people along the route, sharing with the Sherpa people and meeting other races dependent on the mountain trade routes to maintain their wilderness way of life. The wildlife and natural landscape is quite diverse. The expedition's corporate sponsors will include donations to environmental and micro economy projects within the Sargamatha national park. The expedition will be carbon neutral and subject to environmental impact assessments.

Accommodation is in good quality eco lodges throughout. Whilst the primary aim is to complete the base camp trek and a series of peaks en route, there is a further goal. Each trek team will attempt a World First if conditions allow.

The cost will be around £2,300 (possibly less) with easy instalment terms for those who need it. This will be an adventurous group of South West Girlguiding Senior Section and Leaders showing what their developing skills, training and support can achieve in a world class challenge.  Discover your potential....
